That's my little sister Mimi. If you haven't already, click on the player
on the left side of the home page.
Mimi inherited my mom's incredible vocal cords. Through her work with David
Byrne (of The Talking Heads), Michael Stipe (of REM), Moby, Bryan Eno (of Roxy
Music) and others, Mimi made quite a name for herself within the music biz.
She started as the lead singer of a band called Hugo
Largo (which backed up
the Sugar Cubes with Björk at a concert here in San Diego back in "the day").
These three songs are from her solo album called "Soak" and
are available for listening and purchase at Amazon
(MP3 format) and the iTunes
Store. Enjoy!

Roxanne Hall
Roxanne Hall is the model of perseverence. She was hit by a car traveling
at about 60 MPH when she was training for the 2008 Leadville 100, a grueling
hundred-mile mountain bike race. She was very close to dead. Her spine was
broken in several places. Internal organs were damaged. She had a severe concussion,
and was given no prognosis that included walking. She got on her trainer and
started putting in long hours, even when she was still in her body cast. In
2009, she completed the Leadville 100. Her story was the most inspirational
part of a movie called "Race Across the Sky," which covers how Lance Armstrong
and 6-time winner Dave Wiens battled it out for first place.
Anna Lang
Anna holds a very special place in the hearts of many SDBC members who watched
her jump into the sport at a relatively "late" stage of her youth. Once upon
a time in the not-so-distant past, Anna actually raced for SDBC. Before we
knew it, she was in the USA national talent pool to potentially compete in
the olympics, competing in track's World Cup for the USA, racing as a pro
road cyclist with Aaron's, and winning races left and right. Her hard work
isn't limited to the bicycle. She's working on her PhD in structural engineering,
and says her goal as an engineer is to develop earthquake-safe structures and
policies in third-world countries.
Sarah is our San Diego County "home girl" who has gone
so far in cycling. Track World Champion (2x), World Cup gold medalist (7x),
and national record holder and champion several times over, Sarah is still
a quiet, modest young lady who will happily engage in conversation when you
bump into her in a local coffee shop on a training ride. We have high hopes
for her in the 2012 Olympics, and you can help her achieve those goals by directly
supporting the women's track team here.
Jeannie Longo
Jeannie was still winning races against women half her age in 2010 when she won her 57th national title at the French national time trial championships. (Former national road champion Christel Ferrier-Bruneau, 30, finished third at 1:45.) She won her first national championship in 1979. I've heard phrases like "old men rule," but Jeannie has pointed out year after year that old chicks rule, too. She's quite an inspiration to anyone hoping to make cycling or bike racing a lifelong pursuit.
Bonnie Bourque Anderson
Bonnie has been an elite racer for SDBC for
years, and has been a volunteer on SDBC's board of directors as well. When
I first joined SDBC, Bonnie was one of the members who was quick to reach out
and encourage me...this old man who we all know had little hope of ever winning
anything, yet seemed to be discovering a new passion long after it could take
him anywhere other than the hospital a few times. Bonnie is a hero for her
enthusiasm and hard work. Thanks to Bonnie's dedication to completing a rather
arduous application, SDBC was chosen as America's "Club of the Year" by USA Cycling in 2006.
